When PSG advanced past Arsenal to reach the final and face Inter Milan, all eyes turned to Kylian Mbappé. The Frenchman left for greener pastures, and now PSG’s all-time leader goal scorer could see his former club lift their first ever Champions League trophy later if they defeat the Italian side.

Raúl Varela wrote what the Real Madrid attacker could have felt once the final whistle blew in his editorial for Marca.

“In addition to appreciating the quality of their play and the outstanding work Luis Enrique has done on the PSG bench, I thought about Mbappé, who, for now, couldn’t be doing worse after his team switch,” Varela wrote (h/t Le10Sport). “I wondered last night, and I’m still wondering today, what he was thinking at home while watching the performance of his former teammates and friends, who qualified for the final in Munich after beating Arsenal.

“I suppose he was happy — for people like Achraf, for example, one of his closest confidants and a key player for the Parisian team. After all, he spent many years wearing that jersey, and despite everything that happened with Al Khelaifi when he left, that bond with the club doesn’t just disappear. But I’m sure that deep down, he must also feel a bit of anger. How is it possible that they (PSG) have improved so much without me? How is it possible that they (Madrid) have declined so much with me?”
