Julian Ryerson has once again emerged as a Manchester United transfer target after fresh contact was reportedly made with the Borussia Dortmund defender’s representatives.

Manchester United have been monitoring Ryerson since February.

The Norwegian international has remained on the club’s shortlist as they continue assessing options to strengthen the right side of their defence.

Ryerson is currently out representing Norway at the 2026 World Cup, he started in their recent 2-1 victory over Matheus Cunha’s Brazil in the Round of 16.

The 28-year-old has also previously been viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Noussair Mazraoui should United decide to reshape that position in the future.

Meanwhile, CentreDevils exclusively revealed back in May that United had also held talks over a possible move for Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall as Michael Carrick’s recruitment team continue exploring multiple defensive options.

Fresh contact made over Dortmund defender

According to BILD, Manchester United have recently made further contact with Ryerson’s camp after keeping close tabs on his development at Borussia Dortmund.

The report claims the Premier League club have had the versatile defender on their wish list for some time, while several other major European clubs are also monitoring his situation.

Julian Ryerson has enjoyed an outstanding campaign for Dortmund, registering 15 Bundesliga assists in 31 appearances during the 2025/26 season.

His performances have continued onto the international stage, where he has played a key role in Norway’s impressive FIFA World Cup run.

Dortmund, however, are reportedly planning for the future with Ryerson and continue to view him as one of the leaders within Niko Kovac’s squad.

BILD report that despite Manchester United’s renewed approach and interest from elsewhere, the Bundesliga club have no intention of actively pushing the defender towards the exit this summer.

Comfortable at both right-back and right wing-back, Ryerson’s versatility is regarded as one of his biggest strengths, while his creativity from wide areas has added another dimension to his game over the past season.

With United continuing to evaluate several defensive targets ahead of the new campaign, Ryerson is understood to remain firmly on the club’s radar as transfer plans continue to develop.
