Key Point

  • Liverpool started strong but lost three consecutive matches, raising concerns about Arne Slot and Florian Wirtz.
  • Florian Wirtz, a high-profile signing, has no goal contributions in ten games for Liverpool.
  • Jurgen Klopp urged patience, saying, “His quality is so outstanding… you don’t have to [worry].”

Liverpool started the season well after winning their first seven games of the new season. Liverpool has then lost the last three matches across all competitions, and now there are big question marks on Arne Slot and certain players.

One of the players who is questioned in the Liverpool squad among football fans is Florian Wirtz. The German attacking midfielder joined the club this summer for around $154 million or 116 million pounds.

Wirtz arrived as one of the best signings of the summer. As the season has just started, many football fans have criticized the player's start to the season.

Wirtz provided an assist for Hugo Ekitike in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace before the start of the Premier League season, but since then, he has any goal contributions.

Wirtz has played seven Premier League games and two Champions League games for Liverpool, where he has not been able to provide an assist or score a goal.

Some Liverpool fans believe that Wirtz not having any goal contributions does not tell the full story of his start to the new season so far, and former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes fans should be patient with.

In an interview with RTL, Klopp praised Wirtz and believes that fans should not be worried about his start to the season, as he knows that the Liverpool star is capable of helping the team.

Jurgen Klopp on Florian Wirtz

Klopp was asked about his thoughts on Florian Wirtz's start to his Liverpool career so far, and the legendary Liverpool manager suggests the discussion about the player is a bit exaggerated.

Klopp said, "I don’t have to worry about Florian Wirtz because his quality is so outstanding. Of course, everything is fine, and everyone knows that. The discussion is certainly being blown out of proportion.”

The former Liverpool coach praises him as a special talent when describing him. Klopp said, "He is a once-in-a-century talent and at some point, he’ll show that in every game again, as he did at Leverkusen."

Klopp sends a message to Liverpool fans who are worried about Wirtz's form with Liverpool and thinks they should stop worrying. Klopp said, "Wirtz has a stable environment at Liverpool, and the club is great in moments like these. If anyone’s worried, you don’t have to! You can stop."

Wirtz's previous game with Germany against Luxembourg in the UEFA World Cup qualifiers once again gives Liverpool fans hope that he will turn things around very soon by showing glimpses of his Bayer Leverkusen days.

Liverpool's next game after the international break is a match against Manchester United in the Premier League at Anfield next week.
