Juventus could use Douglas Luiz in a swap deal to sign Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund during the summer window. The Italian giant are planning to cash in on Dusan Vlahovic after he refused to extend his contract with them.
Hojlund is at the top of their shortlist to replace Vlahovic as a long-term forward solution during the summer revamp. United signed Hojlund from Atalanta after the 22-year-old impressed the top European clubs in his breakthrough season in Serie A.
However, Hojlund has failed to justify the £72m price that the Red Devils pay for him under Erik ten Hag. As Man United appointed Ruben Amorim to kickstart a new project, the Dane’s place in the squad has become uncertain.
The 22-year-old has made 47 appearances in all competitions for United, scoring nine goals and providing four assists this season. Despite having a poor tenure at United, there is no doubt that Hojlund has the quality and potential to succeed.
There is a good argument that the physically less demanding Serie A competition could bring the best out of him. Considering United’s need to sell players to raise budget before they could back Amorim, a potential sale is mutually beneficial.
According to the Italian publication Tutto Sport, Juventus want United forward Hojlund in a swap deal involving their midfielder, Luiz. The potential deal will depend on the Red Devils’ desire to buy Luiz from the Italian side, along with cash.
Luiz has struggled with fitness throughout this season, but the Brazilian has a good Premier League record with Aston Villa. The 26-year-old has featured in 24 games in all competitions for Juventus, playing mostly as a defensive midfielder.
United would need strong midfielders in their squad if they opt to cash in on the players they possess. Luiz has just started to play in the peak year of his career, with the expectation of him rejuvenating his past form with fitness. However, the Red Devils cannot take too many risks during the summer, and a cash-only deal would benefit them more.
