Manchester United target Jonathan David is closing in on a move to Juventus this summer

Jonathan David has been one of the most consistent strikers in Europe over the last three seasons. With strong technical skills, intelligent movement and remarkable efficiency in the box, the Canadian has caught the attention of major clubs.

His name has been mentioned frequently in the Old Trafford boardroom, especially following the departure of several strikers and the urgent need to revamp the attack. With Ruben Amorim at the helm, Manchester United are looking to build a more dynamic and attacking team, and so David, who is available this summer, seemed an attractive option to strengthen the attack.

Alfredo Pedulla for CaughtOffside has reported that while the Red Devils have been considering their decision, after the latest report claimed that they don’t want to sign the 25-year-old, the Serie A side Juventus have been actively engaged in trying to finalise his signing.

The Serie A side have been keeping tabs on the Canada international for quite some time, and now are seriously moving in to secure him. They are very close to finalising his signature, and the Red Devils are just watching the situation from a distance. The Canadian was in form in the 2024/25 season by scoring 25 goals in all competitions, and that has completely proved that he can consistently perform in an elite club and league.

Manchester United should have taken a firmer stance. A striker with David’s numbers and versatility would fit well into Amorim’s system, especially if the coach wants to create a less predictable attack. His pace, reading of the game and ability to find space would be very useful in the Premier League, where teams press high and punish any misalignment.

While Juventus are positioning themselves intelligently, Manchester risks regretting their miscalculated passivity. Losing a 25-goal scorer without fighting to the end sends worrying signals to fans who expect aggression in the transfer market.

Furthermore, when his statistics are compared with those of other mid-to-high-profile strikers, David stands out for his consistency. He does not have the spotlight of a Haaland or Mbappé, but he has performed year after year without serious injuries or pronounced ups and downs.

Above names, such as Dusan Vlahovic or Alexander Isak, in terms of efficiency and direct involvement in goals, the Canadian does not look out of place. At 25, he is at his peak. If United miss this opportunity, they not only lose a striker but also a chance to send a clear message: that they are willing to compete on all fronts. Juventus have already understood this. Manchester have not yet.
