Juventus is back in the hunt for Jadon Sancho, and this time, they are serious. The Italian giants have reignited their interest in the Manchester United winger with an ultimatum. Take one of three players in exchange, or no deal.
According to reports from GiveMeSport and Football365, Juventus has put three names on the table: Douglas Luiz, Tim Weah, and Dušan Vlahović. These are possible parts of a swap deal for the English international. It is a bold move that tells their urgency and desire to wrap things up quickly, and also to get rid of the 25-year-old as soon as possible.
This is not the first time Sancho has caught Juventus’ eye. The Bianconeri came close to signing him in the summer of 2024, and the player was reportedly open to the move. But just as things seemed to be heading in that direction, Chelsea swooped in with a late bid that turned Sancho’s head, and saw the deal fall apart.
Now, with Sancho most certainly expected to leave Old Trafford, Juventus have come back for the winger with a new approach. The deal presented by Juventus is that Manchester United can pick one of the three players Juventus is offering, each with unique qualities, and use that as the foundation of a potential deal.
Douglas Luiz, who moved to Juventus from Aston Villa for around €50 million almost two years ago, brings Premier League experience and composure in midfield. Tim Weah, a U.S. international with bags of pace, could add versatility out wide. And then there’s Dušan Vlahović, a powerful striker signed for approximately €70 million in 2022, who is still seen as a top talent in Europe despite a somewhat uneven spell in Turin. Juventus hope that the range of profiles available will appeal to United’s needs and, more importantly, help them offload a player who no longer fits into their plans.
While Juventus seems willing to cover the transfer fee, the major roadblock lies in Sancho’s wages. Simply put, they are too high for the Italian club to take on in full. The 25-year-old’s wages come in between any club that tries to negotiate a deal. Juventus are open to the deal, but only if United are willing to pay a part of his salary. So far, that has been a problem.
Sancho was signed on big wages, and with his role at Old Trafford having diminished significantly, United are finding it difficult to attract suitors who can meet both their valuation and his salary demands. The club’s current strategy seems to lean more towards a clean cash sale, one that would not only give some value but also reduce the wage bill and provide more flexibility in the transfer market. That said, with Financial Fair Play and Profit & Sustainability Rules in play, a swap deal like the one Juventus is offering might also make sense, provided the right pieces fall into place.
At this point, it is important to note that no formal talks have started. Juventus have made their offer known, picking from Luiz, Weah, or Vlahović, but United have yet to respond with any serious interest in any of the three.
According to GiveMeSport’s Fabrizio Romano, these are still very much early-stage conversations. United haven’t ruled out a swap or committed to it. With other clubs like Fenerbahçe and Napoli reportedly circling, the Red Devils could yet explore alternate options, especially if those deals involve a permanent solution.
The ball, for now, is in Manchester United’s court. They must decide whether this kind of swap aligns with their transfer strategy or if they’d rather wait for a better cash offer. There’s no shortage of suitors interested in Sancho, but most are loan offers, and some leave as fast as they approach after hearing his salary demands. A few will be able to match his current salary without United chipping in.
For their part, Juventus appears ready to walk away if their terms aren’t met. They’ve made their offer clear, but they won’t meet Sancho’s wage demands alone. The question is whether United is willing to compromise or if it’s still hoping for a straight sale to someone else. Either way, this could be one of the more intriguing transfer stories of the summer. Sancho’s talent is undeniable, but his future has never looked more uncertain.
