This weekend, the stuttering Juventus will host the high-flying Lazio, who will be aiming to return from Turin with their unbeaten run unscathed.

Luciano Spalletti’s first full season at Continassa began with renewed hope, especially after back-to-back wins over Frosinone and Parma in the opening two weeks of the Serie A campaign. However, the Old Lady was only able to rescue a late draw against AC Milan before suffering a dramatic 2-3 defeat in Sassuolo.
Juventus found their form again just before the international break, dismantling their Dutch visitors, NEC, by five unanswered goals in the Europa League and then beating Atalanta 2-0. But unfortunately for Spalletti, his men weren’t able to carry that run beyond the restart, as they settled for a 1-1 draw in Cagliari. The Bianconeri thus sit sixth in the table with 11 points.
Back in the summer, few would have imagined that Lazio would be five points ahead of Juventus at this stage of the season. And yet, the Biancocelesti have astonishingly collected 16 points from a possible 18, sharing the lead with Inter Milan, who only have the advantage thanks to a superior goal difference.
Gennaro Gattuso’s men quickly put their shocking Coppa Italia elimination behind them, as they went on to win their first three Serie A fixtures at the expense of Bologna, Genoa, and Udinese. They then squandered a two-goal lead against Milan to settle for a 2-2 draw, but bounced back with victories over Venezia and Monza, separated by a three-week international break.
Juventus (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Kalulu, Bremer, Lucumi, Celik; Sarr, Douglas Luiz; Zhegrova, McKennie, Gonzalez; Kolo Muani.
Lazio (4-3-3): Mandas; Floriani Mussolini, Sutalo, Provstgaard, Tavares; Frattesi, Belahyane, Taylor; Isaksen, Noslin, Zaccagni.
Since the start of the season, Juventus have been missing some of their most influential players, especially Kenan Yildiz, Manuel Locatelli, and Khephren Thuram. Moreover, the Bianconeri’s injury-riddled squad is being further stretched by the club’s Europa League commitments. In fact, Juve will host Lazio less than 72 hours after a fixture against Celta Vigo in Spain.
On the other hand, Gattuso’s men will enjoy a full week of preparation and an almost empty treatment room, with only Nicolo Rovella, Adam Marusic and Albert Gudmundsson missing. All in all, the fresher Aquile should have the upper hand based on their current form and superior physical condition, at least if they can avoid another second-half slump.
