Havertz will join a squad that is in the midst of little roster rejuvenation. Chelsea has signed Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva ahead of the upcoming season. The signing of Havertz brings their spending total to about £200 million.
"Kai is one of the best players of his age in world football, so we are very happy that his future lies at Chelsea," director Marina Granovskaia said in a statement. "He has proven pedigree in one of the best leagues in Europe, he plays for the German national side and he is an exciting, dynamic talent. We are delighted to be able to add his versatility and quality to the squad before the season begins."
In 2020, Havertz had his way in Germany's Bundesliga, scoring 15 goals and assisting on seven others. He became the youngest player in league history to reach 100 club appearances and the first to score 35 goals before turning 21.
Havertz began his professional journey with Leverkusen as an 11-year-old. He made his senior debut when he was 17 and also has been called up to the German national team, too.
With their new additions, Chelsea, who finished fourth in the Premier League standings, is far better off than they were last season. They'll be looking to bring home their first Premier League title since the 2016-17 campaign.
