After much speculation, Daichi Kamada is set to stay at Lazio with the most straightforward solution to do so, activating the multi-year option that was agreed upon last summer. The deadline to exercise it is May 30th, Corriere dello Sport relayed.

The entourage of the Japanese floated some alternates. For instance, letting it lapse and agreeing to a new contract, perhaps a seasonal one with slightly higher wages. However, the Biancocelesti managed to convince them to abide by the previous terms. The club would have missed out on the fiscal discounts of the ‘Decreto Crescita’ with a new deal.

Kamada struggled to emerge under Maurizio Sarri, but the arrival of Igor Tudor on the Lazio bench turned his season around. He has started consistently and fared impeccably in the last couple of months. He closed his maiden campaign in the Italian capital with 2 goals and 2 assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.

The midfielder was linked to Roma and Juventus but was pursued with the most determination by Cristal Palace. They are coached by his former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glassner.

While Lazio will keep ahold of Kamada, they are facing significant uncertainty in the midfield. Matteo Guendouzi is at odds with Tudor and wants out. Aston Villa are after him, but his price tag is €30M.

The negotiation with Al-Duhail concerning Luis Alberto continues. However, the Qatari club is getting fed up with Claudio Lotito’s requests and might walk away, Il Messaggero relayed. The Biancocelesti want at least €15M, while the counterparty tendered €11M.

Two Premier League giants contact Real Madrid over Rodrygo Goes signing

Real Madrid have been awaiting offers for Rodrygo Goes for most of the summer, and despite links to the Brazilian earlier in the summer in conjunction with Arsenal, there has been relatively little in terms of concrete movement. That appears to have changed. Rodrygo was linked with Arsenal earlier in the summer, but after the signing of Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres, that interest seemed to die away. Meanwhile Liverpool have been cited as the side Rodrygo is most keen on joining, instructing his agents to let them know as much. It appears that a door has been opened to an exit now. A loan deal for Rodrygo? It was reported by The Times (via Diario AS) that Arsenal were considering a loan offer for Rodrygo, and now indyKaila have reported that the Gunners have enquired about a potential deal with Los Blancos on those terms. Both Arsenal and Liverpool have been in touch with Real Madrid to find out if they would be willing to do a loan with an obligation to buy in the summer of 2026. The Paris Saint-Germain scenario Meanwhile Fabrizio Romano has also highlighted that there is a scenario where Paris Saint-Germain renew interest in Rodrygo. If Liverpool cannot get a deal over the line for Alexander Isak, one of the names on their shortlist is PSG’s Bradley Barcola. In the event he were to leave, then Rodrygo could be an option for Luis Enrique’s side. Romano does not that there are no ongoing negotiations between PSG and Real Madrid, or Liverpool and PSG, and that it would hinge on Liverpool’s move for Isak collapsing. Does a loan with an obligation to buy make sense for Real Madrid? For Real Madrid, any deal would obviously hinge on the fee involved in the obligation. It has been reported that Los Blancos are aiming for a €100m fee for the Brazilian, but want a minimum of €80m. It does seem that Rodrygo is not in Xabi Alonso’s plans, at which point it makes sense to move him on, and this would at least save on some of his salary this season. On the flipside, if Rodrygo leaves, Xabi Alonso will no doubt want the funds to strengthen elsewhere. Despite his situation, he is still excellent depth for Alonso up front too.

Jerry Jones takes another jab at Micah Parsons over contract stalemate

The Dallas Cowboys have a big problem on their hands right now. Micah Parsons has formally requested to be traded, and he took to social media to vent his concerns and frustration with his contract extension situation. However, team owner Jerry Jones isn't ready to budge. If anything, the controversial business mogul doesn't sound too worried about that. Talking to the media, he implied that he had already shaken hands on an extension with Parsons, so he just has to wait now: "I bought the Dallas Cowboys with a handshake," Jones said, per The Athletic's Jon Machota. "It took about 30 seconds. I gave the number, shook hands, the details we worked out later." Jones, one of the most successful businessmen of his generation, pretty much stated that he wouldn't change the way he does business. "Just so you understand the way that I communicate with people that I negotiate with. Let's leave it at that," Jones continued. "There's is no question that in the case of a player contract, you have to have it in writing. All parties do. We have a contract in writing, yet we're still talking about renegotiating, so so much for that." Parsons has every right to feel frustrated. He's one of the best pass-rushers in the game, and he's the youngest in the short list of superstars at the position. The Cowboys have a long history of dragging out negotiations for as long as they can, and that's usually rubbed their players the wrong way. Parsons is still under contract, and the Cowboys can technically wait to give him an extension because the market isn't likely to go any higher after T.J. Watt already got a deal done. But sometimes, it's not just about money, and these power struggles are terrible for team morale.

Sophie Cunningham, Sparks HC react to third incident of object tossed onto court

Over the past couple of years, the WNBA has seen a major uptick in ratings and overall fan engagement. Unfortunately, that has also come with negative attention. It may have reached a new low, as there have now been three separate incidents in which a fan has thrown a sex toy on the court. This time, it nearly hit Indiana Fever veteran Sophie Cunningham during a matchup with the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday. Cunningham had already joked about it on social media, and given her outspoken nature and reputation as a bit of an instigator, she didn't shy away from it: She also laughed it up on her Instagram story: Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts, however, didn't think it was a laughing matter. Following the game, she put the fans on blast for their "stupid" behavior. "It's ridiculous. It's dumb. It's stupid," Roberts said, per Yahoo Sports. "It's also dangerous, and you know, player safety is No. 1, respecting the game, all those things. I think it's really stupid." There's no place for any of this in sports, much less in women's sports. The league needs to crack down on this and take the necessary measures to prevent it from happening ever again. The WNBA is finally thriving after years of surviving, and while the fans will eventually grow to respect the product, not all publicity is good publicity.

Commanders offense suffers in joint practice with Patriots

The Washington Commanders gave their coaching staff a glimpse of what could be if the front office's negotiations with star wide receiver Terry McLaurin result in a trade. It wasn't good. Per Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic, McLaurin's absence crushed the Commanders' passing offense during their joint practice Wednesday with the New England Patriots. Not even newcomer Deebo Samuel could save the unit. "With Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown both out, the Commanders’ lack of receiving depth has been a glaring issue in recent practices, especially so on Wednesday," Jhabvala wrote. "Deebo Samuel, a versatile playmaker who can be a chess piece for offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, doesn’t (and shouldn’t) take on the workload expected of a leading wideout or even a No. 2. "And so far, none of the Commanders’ 10 other receivers has emerged as consistent playmakers or a reliable pass catcher capable of taking on more." Washington has to find a way to pay McLaurin soon. He's too critical to the offense and, more importantly, to the long-term development of second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels. McLaurin had his best career season in 2024, catching 82 passes for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns in Daniels' rookie season. He earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors for his efforts. The Commanders made aggressive moves like trading for Samuel in the offseason, not to be a No. 1 wide receiver, but to help take a team that overachieved in 2024 and get them past the Philadelphia Eagles, who knocked them out in the NFC Championship game. Washington needs McLaurin on the field to help free up its other weapons like Samuel and Austin Ekeler or last season may end up just being a fluke.
