Katie Lampson retires from professional soccer

On Tuesday, June 30, Katie Lampson announced that she would be retiring from professional soccer after more than a decade of playing for clubs across the world. Lampson will conclude her career as a two-time NWSL champion.

Lampson was a standout player at Wake Forest University, where she scored 50 goals in 75 games, breaking a school record. In 2013, she began her professional career, which would ultimately span 13 years and take her to clubs including (but not limited to): the Los Angeles Blues, Bayern Munich, the Western City Wanderers, Liverpool, and ultimately NJ/NY Gotham FC.

In her earlier years, Lampson also received a few call-ups to youth national teams. She made a handful of appearances for the USWNT U-20 and U-23 squads but never received a call-up to the senior USWNT.

“Soccer has been my guiding light for the last 30 years,” Lampson said in an official NJ/NY Gotham FC press release.

“Katie has played an important role in some of the biggest moments in our club’s history,” Yael Averbuch West, the president of soccer operations for NJ/NY Gotham FC, said in the same press release. “We are grateful for everything she has contributed to Gotham FC and congratulate her on an outstanding career.”
