Kevin Danso seals loan move to ‘this’ PL club

The 27-year-old did not play across the opening two Premier League games for the Lilywhites this season but featured in the 5-1 win over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup second round. Danso came off the bench and scored with his first touch against Charlton, his only goal in a Tottenham shirt.

A search for regular football

Danso’s departure comes after he slipped down the defensive pecking order under Roberto De Zerbi. Tottenham strengthened their options in the position during the summer, with Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke joining Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies on the roster.

The increased competition left Danso facing a lesser role in the squad, while the Austrian international also made it clear that regular first-team football was important to him. The move to Sunderland now allows the 27-year-old the opportunity to establish himself in the Premier League and potentially turn his loan into a permanent transfer. Danso bolsters the Black Cats’ squad ahead of their first European campaign since 1973.

Tosin Adarabioyo to replace Danso

Danso’s exit from Spurs comes as Spurs close in on a move for Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo. The Lilywhites have reportedly struck a £7 million plus add-ons worth agreement with Chelsea for Tosin, who is expected to complete his move to White Hart Lane before the transfer deadline.

The Nigerian international joined Chelsea in 2024 after his contract with Fulham expired. Since moving to Stamford Bridge, Tosin has made more than 70 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, winning the Conference League and the Club World Cup.

The 28-year-old is an experienced defender and can be counted as a decent replacement for Danso. He will provide a reliable squad rotational option for De Zerbi, whilst acting as a back-up for Van Hecke. For £7 million, Tosin will keep Tottenham’s defensive depth intact.
