Manchester United’s January transfer window continues to take shape, not only thorough first-team decisions but also with movement involving academy-developed players seeking regular football.

For instance, Manchester United have recently loaned out Toby Collyer to Championship side Hull City.

The Red Devils have also looked to complete the transfer of defender Rhys Bennett to Fleetwood Town this month.

Another departure has now been confirmed, with Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock completing the permanent signing of Joe Hugill from Manchester United.

The striker has agreed a deal running until May 2027, subject to international clearance.

Hugill departs Old Trafford after several years within United’s academy setup, where he was viewed as a physically imposing centre-forward with strong goal-scoring instincts.

The 22-year-old joined the Red Devils in 2020 after progressing through the youth systems at Newcastle United and Sunderland, opting for a move to Carrington despite interest from other Premier League clubs.

While first-team opportunities proved limited, United facilitated multiple loan spells to accelerate his development.

He gained valuable senior experience across the English football league with Altrincham, Burton Albion, Wigan Athletic, Carlisle United and most recently Barnet, helping him adapt to the demands of men’s football.

The permanent move allows Hugill to take the next step in his career with regular first-team minutes, while United continue to reshape their academy-to-senior pathway and make clear decisions on player futures during the window.
