Harry Maguire’s late goal gave Manchester United their first win at Anfield since 2016, finishing off an important 2-1 victory for the club.
Last Sunday’s result will stand out as Ruben Amorim’s most significant achievement during his stint at Old Trafford so far.
The game started quickly when Bryan Mbeumo found the net in just 62 seconds to put United ahead. After Cody Gakpo drew Liverpool level, it was Maguire who stepped up and delivered the winner.
Kobbie Mainoo did not start, but could be seen celebrating enthusiastically on the sideline after Maguire scored.
Mainoo did not come on until late in the match, replacing Bruno Fernandes shortly after the midfielder had set up United’s second goal.
He was already preparing to come on when Maguire found the net, and could be seen celebrating with staff near the touchline before he even stepped onto the pitch.
Mainoo was spotted celebrating with Adelio Candido, one of United’s coaches, who lifted him off his feet as they embraced. The moment highlighted just how much playing for United means to him.

And although there have been recent headlines about the 20-year-old possibly moving away from Old Trafford, his reaction to Maguire’s winner did not look like a player ready to walk away any time soon.
Mainoo has not hidden his desire for more playing time at United, but there has been no indication he has taken the same path as other frustrated players in recent years.
Even with limited opportunities, he stays focused and positive, always backing his teammates and joining in celebrations.
Sharing that moment with a member of Amorim’s staff highlighted that his situation is about game time, not personal issues within the club. There has not been any suggestion that he is unhappy or feels mistreated, beyond wanting more minutes.
Amorim has consistently urged Mainoo to be patient, assuring him of a more significant role in due course. The 20-year-old appears willing to trust this process for now.
Watching him celebrate from the touchline only reinforced what people already know: Mainoo carries himself like a true professional, even when things are not perfect.
