Kieran Tierney revealed that he maintained contact with four influential Celtic figures after leaving the club in August 2019 in a £25 million transfer to Arsenal…
The left-back has just made a heartwarming comeback to his boyhood club, returning from Arsenal, where he spent six years after his record breaking transfer in 2019.
During his six-year spell in North London, Tierney featured 144 times for Arsenal, securing an FA Cup and two Community Shields. Despite his time in England, Tierney stayed connected with several influential figures at Celtic, including Brendan Rodgers, John Kennedy, James Forrest, and Callum McGregor.
And of course KT has spoken often about his daily chats with former Celtic captain Scott Brown who is now the manager at Championship side Ayr United.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Tierney said: “I spoke with the manager, and obviously I had worked with the gaffer before and I’ve always kept in touch with him. He’s one of the best so I’m so lucky and grateful that he’s given me the chance to come back again.
“He never had to convince me much but it’s just a huge bonus that he’s the manager because I loved working with him. He knows how to get the best out of me, and I just loved my time under him.
“He’s a great person that I’ve always kept in touch with, John Kennedy as well, who is also someone I’ve kept in touch with and who I still meet regularly when I’m back, and Cal and Jamesy, who I’ve been close with now since I was 17.”
Kieran Tierney has signed a five-year contract with Celtic, securing his place at the club for the foreseeable future. With 170 appearances for Celtic already under his belt, Tierney will be keen to add many more over the next five years.
The clock is now ticking on Tierney’s comeback in a Celtic shirt, as he prepares to rejoin Brendan Rodgers’ squad for the first time in six years.
On Tuesday, Scottish Championship side Queen’s Park, confirmed they will welcome the Scottish champions for a pre-season friendly at The City Stadium on Friday, 4 July, with a 7:45 pm kick-off.
As Celtic prepare to begin pre-season training on 1 July, Tierney may not be ready to take part immediately, having recently been on international duty with Scotland where there was a minor injury scare after the 3-1 defeat to Iceland at Hampden Park.
