Kylian Mbappe breaks silence on whether he’ll compete at the Paris Olympics or not for France
Yukihito Taguchi-USA TODAY Sports

If there’s one name that’s made headlines every other day, it’s Kylian Mbappe . The French international has been in the news following his potential move to Real Madrid and subsequent rift with Paris Saint-Germain management. While the footballing community prepares to welcome him to the Santiago Bernabeu, another incident has now made headlines – the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Being the hosts, France will do their very best to win every possible trophy on home soil. A sport that they excel in and have a significant chance of doing so is football.

However, internal politics and club management make it difficult for any top player to represent their nation, that too in a competition like the Olympics. Mbappe recently shed light on his situation and whether he will be representing France at the Olympics.

I've always wanted to play at the Olympics and my desire has not changed. If I play, then it will be a dream, but if not, I'll do as I'm told. The decision is up to one person and they haven't told me a yes or no. Kylian Mbappe in a press conference ahead of the game vs Germany

His comments caught attention with respect to two factors. One, his potential move to Real Madrid and two, the club denying Eduardo Camavinga and Ferland Mendy permission to participate at the Olympics.

Kylian Mbappe says he is ‘yet to decide’ on his future

The talismanic Frenchman’s future is anything but decided. Despite popular media outlets all claiming that the 25-year-old has agreed on a move to Real Madrid, the striker himself claims otherwise! Ahead of an international friendly against Germany, the World Cup winner said that he is yet to make a decision on his future and that he has ‘nothing’ to announce either.

He added that he himself will come forward and let the world know if there is something that needs announcing. The transfer saga of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid has been going on for the larger part of the last two seasons. Incidents like him taking a U-turn last year and renewing with PSG to now announcing his desire to leave the club are rightly fitting of a ‘soap opera’ as said by Ronaldo Nazario himself.

However, the Frenchman has not let the commotion affect his form, as he leads the goal scoring charts in Ligue 1. The PSG No.7 has scored 24 goals in as many matches while setting up another five. His seven goals in the French Cup and six in the UCL only add to the reasons why every top club in Europe would kill to have him on board.
