Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe had to miss several games with a left knee injury that had been acting up. He was initially trying to play through the pain, but Madrid and doctors thought it would be best for the French superstar to shut things down and heal instead of making things worse.
He returned against Atletico Madrid in a 3-2 El Derbi win, looking quite spry off the bench for the Merengeus. It is questionable if he will play for the French national team during this March international break, but Mbappe looks ready to make a difference for the Royal Whites when play resumes in April.
Unfortunately, as with anything relating to Mbappe, there are always conspiracies and rumors abound, and one of them is that Mbappe has been trying to take games off in order to save himself for the World Cup, having won in 2018 for France but losing in the Final in 2022 despite a heroic individual effort vs. Argentina.
Well, Mbappe is here to tell anyone who believes those rumors in the strongest of terms that they are bunk. He told reporters, via the Madrid Zone:
“People saying I’m managing my minutes at Real Madrid to keep myself healthy for the World Cup? This is NOT a conversation. I’ve played two World Cups, I won one, and I reached the final in the other one. How did I prepare for those World Cups? By playing EVERY game with my club. For me, it’s OBVIOUS that I want to play ALL games with Real Madrid. This debate is a joke. I prepared for my last two World Cups in the best way possible, which is by playing, scoring a lot of goals, winning titles and fighting until the last minute with my club and I will do the same this year.”
Kylian Mbappe was actually playing through the pain and doing his best to win games for Real Madrid, even when they were struggling badly under Xabi Alonso. Actually, a big reason for his motivation behind playing through the pain was to help Alonso keep his job, since he felt bad and wanted to fight for the coach.
Despite people calling him selfish and a bad team player, Mbappe has been Real’s brightest spot even in dark times since coming for free from PSG, and despite the target on his back from the media, he has been classy. Let these quotes put to rest any of those rumors about his loyalties.
