Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close eye on Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo, and they now know how much it will take to bring him to North London. The Basque side value him at around £52 million, a strong sum but one that reflects just how highly he has been performing.
Spurs have been scouring the market for a wide attacker and have set their sights on Takefusa Kubo, who has been a consistent performer for Real Sociedad in recent years. The Japanese international garnered a lot of attention when Real Madrid signed him half a dozen years ago, as he was previously a part of Barcelona’s famed La Masia division. However, the player failed to establish himself at Real Madrid, and he has finally found his feet at Real Sociedad.
The 24-year-old has made nearly 150 appearances for Real Sociedad thus far, chipping in with 24 goals and 18 assists. Meanwhile, Kubo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several big clubs across Europe, including Tottenham.
Kubo has endured a difficult 2025/26 campaign, managing just one goal in 10 La Liga appearances. A change of scenery could allow him to reignite his career, and this could happen if Tottenham formalise their interest.
According to Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke, Kubo would be tempted by a move to Tottenham.
“The player himself could be interested in moving away because it’s not been the best of seasons for Real Sociedad in La Liga this year and they have struggled more than they normally do,” Pete O’Rourke exclusively told Football Insider.
“They’re normally more competitive than they have been so far this season as well and the player himself could be finally interested in making that move to the Premier League.
“I think with the price tag involved, that £52m, it could be an expensive deal to do in January.
“He’s a top player, Kubo, capable of playing on both flanks. He would definitely add something to that Tottenham attack as well. He can play left side or right side and he definitely has a goal in him as well.
“So, he would tick a lot of boxes for Tottenham for what they’re looking in January, but I just think the price tag could make any deal prohibitive.”
Kubo offers pace, dynamism, creativity and flair from wide areas, and Thomas Frank needs these traits because his current wingers are not producing that consistently. Predominantly a right-winger, the Japanese can also operate from the opposite flank and make a difference to the Tottenham attack. He’d provide a different dimension in the final third than the likes of Kudus, Johnson and Odobert.
Valued at around £52m, the fleet-footed South Asian star has the potential to be a smart long-term investment at N17. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham would table an offer for Kubo in January.
