Following the signing of international midfielder Granit Xhaka, Sunderland’s spending looks unlikely to slow down. The club are determined to survive in the upcoming Premier League season and, having already spent over £110 million, more incomings are expected.

Here are the latest Sunderland transfer rumours brought to you by Last Word on Football.

Latest Sunderland Transfer Rumours: Keeper Deal Agreed and More

Deal Agreed to Sign 22-Year-Old Dutch Star

According to David Ornstein and the Sunderland Echo, Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign the highly-rated Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs from NEC Nijmegen. A transfer fee of €10 million with a further €3 million in add-ons has been agreed with the shot-stopper, expected to have a medical on Wearside today. Should all go to plan, Roefs is expected to sign a five-year deal.

6ft 4in Roefs is a Netherlands U21 international and has impressed with his shot-stopping ability and his confidence with the ball at his feet, an ability which is an important attribute in today’s game. The Black Cats have been searching for a new goalkeeper all summer, and it appears that their search is almost at an end.

Granit Xhaka Could be Followed by Former Teammate

Amine Adli could be set to follow Granit Xhaka out of Bayer Leverkusen and join Sunderland. Last night, the Sunderland Echo reported that the Black Cats are preparing a move for the versatile forward.

Valued at £23 million, Sunderland are reportedly rivaling Premier League rivals Wolves for the 25-year-old who can play in several forward positions. Having recently missed out on winger Armand Laurienté and Romain Mundle injured, Head Coach Regis Le Bris wants to add more options to the wide areas of his squad.

Adil wants to play more first-team football and feels he may need to move to get the game time he craves. Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes recently said: “Of course, players who have been here for a long time are concerned with their personal situation and are looking at their chances of playing time. We know that we have many good players who are of interest to other clubs.

“That’s the way it is, and that’s certainly the case with Amine. There’s no need to beat around the bush. He has the ambition to be an important player and to play a lot. That’s why the situation is perhaps a little more open for him at the moment, even though I believe he has the qualities to play a very important role for us. We have no increased interest in forcing anything.”
