Lausanne-Sport officially sign Manchester United defender

Manchester United’s transfer business hasn’t only focused on first-team arrivals this summer.

However, the club has also been reshaping its academy, allowing several young talents to continue their careers elsewhere after years developing at Carrington.

With opportunities limited in a squad packed with experienced internationals, permanent exits have become an increasingly common route for promising graduates.

Another academy defender has now found his next destination.

After years progressing through United’s academy system, Tyler Fredricson has officially completed a permanent move away from the club.

Manchester United defender officially joins Lausanne-Sport

Swiss side FC Lausanne-Sport confirmed on their website that they have reached an agreement with Manchester United for the transfer of the English centre-back.

The 20-year-old has signed a contract running until 30 June 2029.

In an official statement, Lausanne said, “FC Lausanne-Sport is delighted to be able to support Tyler Fredricson in the next stage of his career and welcomes him to Lausanne and wishes him every success in the blue and white colours.”

Tyler Fredricson first joined Manchester United’s academy in 2018, steadily progressing through the youth ranks before signing his first professional contract in May 2022.

He quickly developed a reputation for his maturity, composure in possession, leadership qualities and intelligent positioning.

One of the standout moments of his academy career came during the 2021/22 campaign, when he played an important role in Manchester United Under-18s memorable FA Youth Cup triumph.

From 2022 to 2026, Fredricson became a key figure for United’s Under-21 side, regularly captaining the team while continuing to impress coaches with his consistency.

His development also saw him train frequently alongside the senior squad.

Back in 2022, he was included in a Manchester United matchday squad for a UEFA Europa League clash against Real Sociedad, before eventually earning his Premier League debut.

That opportunity arrived against Wolverhampton Wanderers, where Fredricson immediately made headlines with a remarkable defensive display.

The young defender set a Premier League debut record by winning more duels than any other player on the pitch.

Fredricson won 12 individual duels, repeatedly getting the better of Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen in a performance that showcased both his physicality and composure under pressure.

Despite that encouraging introduction to senior football, opportunities at Old Trafford remained limited, and the defender has now opted to continue his development in Switzerland.
