Lazio have reportedly set their sights on Leeds United left-back Junior Firpo who is seemingly heading towards the exit door.
The Biancocelesti might need some reinforcement in the full-back department next summer, especially with Nuno Tavares facing an uncertain future . Moreover, Elseid Hysaj and Adam Marusic are on the wrong side of 30, while Luca Pellegrini’s campaign was marred by a mid-season omission due to his alleged lack of effort in training.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the club directors have identified Firpo as a potential solution, especially due to his expiring contract.
The 28-year-old played an instrumental role in Leeds’ triumphant Championship campaign, helping the club seal a return to the Premier League. However, sources believe a stay at Elland Road is almost ‘impossible’. In addition to Lazio, the left-back is also being linked to several other clubs around Europe, including Milan and Atletico Madrid.
The Dominican rose through the ranks of Real Betis before earning a transfer to Barcelona in the summer of 2019. However, the full-back couldn’t carve himself a significant role with the Blaugrana, so he only made 41 appearances during his two-year spell in Catalunya.
In 2021, Firpo joined Leeds on a deal worth €15 million, and went on to make 119 appearances for the Peacocks, contributing with six goals and 22 assists. The full-back represented Spain on the U21 level, before switching his allegiance and making his senior debut for his native Dominican Republic in March 2024.
