A sensational report claims Lazio are contemplating a move for their former star Keita Balde, who is considered an alternative to Lorenzo Insigne.
The 30-year-old started his career at Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy before being snapped up by the Biancocelesti in 2011. Two years later, he became a permanent member of the first team, and at one point, he cemented himself as one of the main stars at the club. Keita was eventually sold to Monaco in the summer of 2017, and wasn’t able to fulfil his initial promise afterwards.
The winger endured several underwhelming spells at the likes of Inter Milan, Sampdoria and Cagliari, among others. In February 2025, he joined Monza as a free agent, and although he couldn’t help the club in their bid to avoid relegation last season, he’s still offering his services to the Lombardians, who currently lead the Serie B table.
The versatile attacker has thus far contributed with two goals and one assist in 12 appearances this term. His contract with the Biancorossi runs until the summer of 2027. But according to La Repubblica (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Aquile could try to cut Keita’s time at Monza short by offering him a tempting return to Formello.
It is well known that Maurizio Sarri has requested the signing of a new left winger, who can act as an understudy to Mattia Zaccagni. The manager identified his old Napoli Lorenzo Insigne as his preferred target for the role, and it has been reported that the management has an agreement in principle with the player’s entourage.
However, Balde represents a younger profile, and he wouldn’t occupy a place on the club’s already saturated Serie A squad list, as he’s considered a Lazio academy product, similar to Danilo Cataldi. He has also maintained a good rapport with the club. He even trained with the Lazio Primavera when he was a free agent.
Nevertheless, one might imagine that Sarri wouldn’t be entirely pleased if the management ended up ditching Insigne in favor of the Spaniard.
