Lazio forward Pedro was a surprisingly decisive factor in last season’s Scudetto race, scoring twice in Lazio’s 2-2 draw with Inter in May.
The Spaniard received an immense outpouring of love from Napoli fans on social media in the aftermath of the campaign and he has now revealed a bit more about the Neapolitan madness he found himself bombarded with.
Speaking to DAZN, with quotes via La Lazio Siamo Noi, Pedro said “Yes I received a lot of messages, even videos.”
“I even got messages from players like Spinazzola and Juan Jesus,” he revealed, “who I played with at Roma. It was a lot of fun but I didn’t do anything special. They had a great season, I just helped my team try and get the win.”
“It’s a nice anecdote that I remember fondly,” he concluded, “people on the street still thank me for the Scudetto. But I didn’t do anything, they deserved to win.”
In June, the Biancocelesti handed 37-year-old Pedro a new contract, giving him another year in the Italian capital.
The veteran Spanish forward has become somewhat of a fan favourite in Rome and scored ten goals in 30 matches last season.
When announcing the new deal, the club statement read:
“Pedro has been able to represent the values of experience, balance and dedication on and off the pitch. The renewal is part of a logic of continuity and practicality: Pedro’s experience and reliability will be a fundamental resource to face the next season with solidity.”
