Lazio have reportedly enquired about the services of Girona full-back Arnau Martinez, who has a release clause inserted in his contract.

After lifting the transfer ban, the Biancocelesti have been making up for their lack of activity in the summer with a rather hectic January session. They have already offloaded three players (Castellanos, Guendouzi, and Mandas) and made four new signings (Ratkov, Taylor, Edoardo Motta, and Daniel Maldini). However, Angelo Fabiani isn’t done yet, as he’s still working on new arrivals.

According to Sky Sport Italia journalists Manuele Baiocchini and Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio have made initial contacts with Girona’s Martinez. The 22-year-old’s contract contains a €14 million release clause, but the Aquile are hoping to find an agreement with the LaLiga club on a lower figure, especially with the player’s deal expiring in June 2027.

Martinez started his career at Barcelona’s youth product, but he’s been with Girona since 2018. The Spaniard climbed his way through the club’s youth ranks, and has been a member of the first team since 2021.

The Spain U21 international is now considered a key player at the club, making 19 appearances since the start of the season, contributing with a goal and an assist. He is originally a right-back, but he’s capable of filling various other roles as well. In this campaign, he has often played at the heart of the backline.

Lazio have recently renewed the contract of Adam Marusic , but the arrival of a young right-back remains a popular demand. Elseid Hysaj will certainly leave once his contract expires at the end of the season, while Manuel Lazzari’s future remains shrouded in mystery.
