Lazio midfielder has been struggling with a groin issue since the start of the season. The player and the club have been seeking a permanent solution.
The 23-year-old felt pain during the team’s defeat to Sassuolo last month, so he was forced to leave the pitch before the interval. A week later, Maurizio Sarri took a risk by fielding Rovella in the starting lineup against Roma. However, this decision backfired, as the player was forced to grit his teeth just to make it until the half-time whistle.
Lazio captain Mattia Zaccagni reportedly advised his young teammate to follow in his footsteps by undergoing surgery. The winger went under the knife to treat a similar case in January before rejoining his teammates in pre-season training. Nevertheless, Rovella was reluctant to do so in the middle of the campaign and miss a month or so of competitive action, so he opted for alternative treatment.
However, recent reports revealed that the midfielder hasn’t displayed significant improvement as of late. So according to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Rovella has now succumbed to his fate, as he finally agreed to undergo surgery after giving up on alternative methods.
The Roman newspaper expects the operation to take place at the Quisisana private clinic in the next few days. The former Juventus player will then begin a rehabilitation process that should last for around one month. Hence, Lazio will be hoping to have him back at Sarri’s disposal by mid-November.
