Lazio are planning to show their love for former coach Sven-Goran Eriksson at the Stadio Olimpico next month.

The former Swedish coach, who famously guided the Biancocelesti to multiple honours including the Scudetto and two Coppa Italia from 1997 to 2001, announced back in January that he’d been diagnosed with terminal cancer, giving him up to a year left to live.

The news prompted an outpouring of support from Lazio fans and others in the footballing world. He was welcomed by large crowds at Liverpool and Benfica in celebration of his career, and now a third club are ready to honour the 76-year-old.

As reported by Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lazio are hard at work setting up celebrations for the 50th anniversary of their 1974 Scudetto, and the plan includes bringing back Eriksson on May 12th as part of the event, allowing fans to remember both league titles together.

Ahead of the clash with Lecce in January, Biancocelesti fans held up a banner in support of the former Swedish coach, saying: “The battle has begun. Mr Sven, we’re with you!”
