Lazio have rekindled their interest in Bologna midfielder Giovanni Fabbian, and they’re expected to make a fresh attempt to sign him in January.
The 22-year-old began his career at Padova before joining Inter Milan’s youth ranks. After emerging as one of the brightest young talents among the Nerazzurri’s ranks, he confirmed his promise with an impressive Serie B campaign while on loan at Reggina in the 2022/23 campaign, earning himself a transfer to Bologna the following summer.
This season, the young attacking midfielder has made 16 appearances across all competitions, but with the majority coming off the bench, as Vincenzo Italiano prefers Jens Odgaard in the No.10 role. Hence, the Italy U21 international might be open to a new career chapter.
According to Sky Sport journalist Manuele Baiocchini (via Gianlucadimarzio.com), Lazio are expected to launch an onslaught for Fabbian next week. The young Italian player is wanted by everyone at Lazio, including head coach Maurizio Sarri, sporting director Angelo Fabiani, and club president Claudio Lotito.
The source also reveals that the Biancocelesti have an excellent rapport with Bologna, as the two clubs remain in constant contact. It should also be noted that the costs of signing Italian players under the age of 23 are now exempt from the financial reports that Serie A clubs present for the supervisory committee, giving Lazio another incentive to sign the former Inter player.
The Aquile consider bolstering the midfield department as the main priority in January, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been identified as Sarri’s favorite profile. However, striking a deal with AC Milan could prove difficult in January, so Fabiani is keeping tabs on other midfielders, including Fabbian and Atalanta’s Lazar Samardzic.
