Lazio president Claudio Lotito is continuing his work preparing the Stadio Flaminio project.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, Lotito’s aim is to completely redevelop the structure, increasing the capacity to 40,000 and creating a commercial area that can remain open all year, with shops and restaurants being present.

The Biancocelesti president wants to grow Lazio’s profile and move out of their current home in the Stadio Olimpico, which is currently being rented by the city of Rome.

Intercity rivals Roma are also working on a new stadium, developing their Tor di Valle project.

The Stadio Flaminio has remained abandoned since the Italian rugby team left in 2012, when they moved to the Stadio Olimpico as well.

The current capacity of the stadium is 30,000 and it would require serious renovations to modernise it and make it safe for fans to attend. It was built for the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome.
