Lazio ended their year with two disappointing draws against mid-table sides, the first at home against Cremonese, and the second in Udine, as they couldn’t build on the surreal victory in Parma a few weeks back, when they snatched the win despite being reduced to nine men.
All these matches featured controversial refereeing decisions that went against the Biancocelesti. And while the hierarchy have finally decided to back Maurizio Sarri in his campaign against the injustice his men are suffering on a weekly basis, the reality is that the Aquile currently lie 8th in the Serie A table, and have played an extra match compared to most of the teams in front of them.
Napoli began their December in style, beating Juventus 2-1 at home. However, they suffered back-to-back defeats to Benfica and Udinese while struggling with a major injury crisis in the middle of the park in the middle of the month. However, Antonio Conte’s men bounced back in style, comfortably beating AC Milan and Bologna to lift the Italian Super Cup in Riyadh.
After winning their first piece of silverware this season, the Partenopei restored their confidence and made short work of their hosts, Cremonese, in their final match of 2025. The reigning Italian champions currently sit third in the table, but they’re only two points behind the league leaders, Inter Milan, so they wouldn’t want to drop any points on Sunday.
Lazio (4-3-3): Provedel; Marusic, Gila, Romagnoli, Pellegrini; Guendouzi, Cataldi, Basic; Cancellieri, Noslin, Zaccagni.
Napoli (3-4-3): Milinkovic-Savic; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Buongiorno; Politano, Lobotka, McTominay, Spinazzola; Neres, Hojlund, Elmas.
Even throughout turbulent times, Lazio tend to do well against Napoli. With Taty Castellanos seemingly on his way out of the club, Tijjani Noslin will be looking to cement himself as the Partenopei’s bogeyman. However, it remains to be seen if Alessio Romagnoli and Co. will be able to contain David Neres and Rasmus Hojlund, who have been virtually unstoppable in recent weeks.
At the end of the day, a hard-fought draw wouldn’t be a terrible result for either side.
