Sunderland are continuing their preparations for the 2025-26 season, where they will compete in the Premier League.
The Black Cats earned promotion after beating Coventry City in the playoff semifinals and Sheffield United in the playoff final.
Since then, the Lads have been making headlines, both with official moves and decisions as well as transfer rumors involving potential arrivals and departures.
Another major topic is the team's new kits. Recently, Sunderland's home and away kits for the upcoming season were leaked.

The home shirt maintains the team's classic style with red and white stripes, featuring white trim above the red stripes.
Designed by Hummel, the shirt has a black V-neck that contrasts with the other details. It also features new front-of-shirt sponsor W88, a betting company.
The away shirt is royal blue with a white V-neck collar.
Most notably, the badge isn't Sunderland's current crest but rather uses the classic Sunderland AFC 1963-1972 ship emblem.
No official release date has been leaked yet, but with summer 2025 now underway, it likely won't be long before they're unveiled.
What's next for Sunderland ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season?
The Black Cats still have several issues to address. In recent weeks, they've been linked with numerous players - defenders, midfielders, and even forwards.
Defensive targets reportedly include Celtic's Cameron Carter-Vickers (27), Liverpool's Joe Gomez (28), and Lyon's Duje Caleta-Car (28).
In attack, the Lads have been linked with Nantes' Matthis Abline (22) and Dynamo Kyiv's Vladyslav Vanat (23).
So it appears it will be a long summer, and we'll have to wait for further developments.

Man City star linked with move to Premier League rivals
Crystal Palace have reportedly made an ambitious move for Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji as it braces for the possible departure of Marc Guehi before the close of the transfer window. Reports in England indicate Palace has tabled a bid worth around £15M ($20.2M), including bonuses, for the Swiss international. Akanji has slipped down the pecking order at the Etihad in recent weeks, unused against Wolves and left out entirely for the clash with Tottenham Hotspur for “tactical reasons.” While Galatasaray has also held exploratory talks, Palace is understood to be the most serious contender for his signature. Palace’s pursuit is directly linked to Guehi’s uncertain future. The England international has entered the final year of his contract and has been heavily courted by Liverpool. With his value likely to decline beyond this summer, Palace is prepared to sell if a suitable offer arrives before Deadline Day on Sept. 1. Securing Akanji would provide Oliver Glasner’s side with an experienced replacement capable of stepping straight into the back line. Akanji joined City from Borussia Dortmund for £15M ($20.2M) in 2022 and quickly became a trusted option for Pep Guardiola, helping the club win multiple domestic titles and the Champions League. However, the depth of competition at center-back, with Ruben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol all competing for minutes, has made his role increasingly uncertain heading into the new campaign. Despite outside interest, Akanji is believed to prefer staying at City for at least another season and has reportedly long resisted approaches from Galatasaray. Even so, the club may consider a sale if it receives a strong offer and can identify a replacement. There is even speculation Guardiola’s side could target Guehi, potentially sparking a transfer domino effect between the two clubs. For Palace, the approach for Akanji shows its determination to remain competitive should Guehi depart. For City, it highlights lingering questions about Guardiola’s defensive balance with the window closing in. Even more so following the 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham this past weekend. What is certain is that Akanji has emerged as one of the late-window storylines to watch as the Sept. 1 deadline fast approaches.
Zachary Yager, Veteran NASCAR Pit Crew Member, Dies Aged 35
Zachary Yager, who had served as an over-the-wall pit crew member in the NASCAR National Series ranks since the 2014 season, has died at the age of 35. TobyChristie.com had the initial report of Yager's death. Yager, a New York native, had pit crew stints with Richard Childress Racing, Team Penske, RFK Racing, and JTG Daugherty Racing (now known as HYAK Motorsports), where he won the 2023 Daytona 500, from 2014 to 2024. Ahead of the 2025 season, Yager moved to Elite Race Services, a Mooresville, NC-based company that specializes in assembling teams of pit crews for NASCAR National Series race teams. This season, Yager had been serving as the Jack Man for the No. 39 RSS Racing team in the NASCAR Xfinity Series as well as the No. 88 ThorSport Racing team in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The loss of Yager was absolutely unexpected for Elite Race Services, which is grieving the loss of one of its own, while issuing its deepest sympathy to Yager's family. “Obviously, nobody saw this coming and we’re in total disbelief,” Cory DeMarco, owner of Elite Race Services said in a statement given to TobyChristie.com. “All of the guys send our thoughts and prayers out to his dad and family, right now.” ThorSport Racing, likewise, expressed grief over the sudden and unexpected loss of Yager. “We are deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of our friend and teammate, Zachary Yager,” said ThorSport Racing in a statement. “He was an important part of our family, and our hearts are with his loved ones and community as we grieve this loss together.” While he was serving as a Jack Man this season, Yager was well-known as a well-rounded pit crew member, who could perform at nearly every position on an over-the-wall pit crew. Yager previously served as a Tire Carrier and Fueler in addition to the Jack Man role. No details surrounding Yager's death have been released, but the veteran pit crew member had been missing since Monday, August 18, according to various social media posts from members of Yager's family.
Dolphins Roster Moves Tracker: WR Corps Taking Shape
Keeping tabs on all the roster moves the Miami Dolphins are making on this Tuesday, August 26 as they get down to the NFL-mandate limit of 53 players by 4 p.m. ET. WR Room Almost Finalized Two of the three latest moves involved two wide receivers being waived, according to multiple reports, those two being 2022 fourth-round pick Erik Ezukanma and rookie free agent Theo Wease Jr. The moves leave seven wide receivers on the active roster, with the expectation the team will keep five or six. The four locks or near-locks would appear to be Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Malik Washington and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, with the other three candidates being Dee Eskridge, Tahj Washington and rookie free agent Andrew Armstrong. We'd put Eskridge at the top of the pecking order among the final three, though he did have some drops late in camp and the preseason. Ezukanma came on strong late in camp, but it wasn't enough to secure him a roster spot. It's the second consecutive year he has failed to make the initial 53-man roster, though he was elevated from the practice squad to take part in two games last year. Since being drafted, he has appeared in five regular season games, clearly a disappointment for the Dolphins considering they only had four picks in that 2022 draft. Wease is a talented receiver with great size and pass-catching ability, but his lack of speed made him a long shot all along. Also reported to be released is safety Patrick McMorris, a sixth-round pick in the 2024 draft whose rookie season was delayed by a camp injury. McLendon Comes Up Short Among the young edge defenders who impressed during training camp, you could have put Derrick McLendon at or near the top of the list. But it wasn't enough to earn him a roster spot. McLendon will be waived, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. As was the case with Quinton Bell, McLendon was hurt by the arrival of veteran Matthew Judon and his lack of special teams experience probably didn't help his cause, either. But McLendon clearly has pass-rushing ability, which is why it would make sense to see the Dolphins re-sign him to the practice squad if he clears waivers, which will be revealed by Wednesday at noon. McLendon, the former Florida State and University of Colorado player who spent last season on the Dolphins practice squad, tied with Grayson Murphy for the team lead in sacks this preseason with two. Along with the McLendon news, the Dolphins also will be released interior defensive lineman Matt Dickerson, per Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald. Dickerson, like McLendon, has a solid training camp but his spot on the roster became tenuous once the Dolphins spent three draft picks on interior defensive linemen this year — Kenneth Grant, Jordan Philllips and Zeek Biggers. Saying Bye to Bell The first reported cut of the day can be classified as a bit of a surprise because it involved linebacker Quinton Bell being waived, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. This comes after Bell played all 17 games in 2024 and made three starts on defense while playing 84 percent of the snaps on special teams. While he's never been a dynamic player, Bell is a solid two-way defender, and that combined with his special teams work figured to make him a good bet to make the initial 53-man roster. Of course, Bell wasn't helped by the signing last week of veteran edge defender Matthew Judon, who brings double-digit-sack potential to what has the makings of an elite group if Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips can stay healthy and Chop Robinson builds on his strong rookie season of 2024. Along with the aforementioned quartet, others in the mix at edge defender/outside linebacker for the Dolphins include fellow special teams standout Cameron Goode, along with promising young pass rushers Derrick McLendon and Grayson Murphy. Bell originally joined the Dolphins in October 2023 when they signed him to the practice squad. He was a star at training camp in the early going last summer, though never was able to deliver that kind of impact in the regular season. Dolphins Add Douglas After what’s been a drawn-out process, the Miami Dolphins are finally adding a veteran cornerback to whom they’ve been linked for a few months. The team is signing former Buffalo Bills cornerback Rasul Douglas to a one-year, $3 million deal. Miami has had an interest in Douglas since it dealt Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers. Douglas made 15 starts for the Bills last season, recording 43 total tackles, five passes defended, and one forced fumble. He’s definitely one of the better options available, and he won’t turn 30 until Aug. 29. Douglas will come in and immediately be a starting-caliber option on the outside. That’s obviously valuable at a position like cornerback. He’s also a primary zone cornerback, which is what the Dolphins like to run under defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. The Dolphins’ cornerback room wasn’t great coming into camp, and it’s been hit by injuries this summer. Kader Kohou and Artie Burns are out for the year with ACL injuries, while Ethan Bonner and Kendall Sheffield are also injured as Week 1 approaches. More Miami Dolphins Coverage:
The Commanders are likely to shake up the backup QB spots, and they have quality options including a popular 2025 draft pick
I know this might seem like an unimportant topic, but this can become a major factor at any point in the season for the Washington Commanders. Having a quality backup QB has become a vital position for teams, and injuries happen all the time. Marcus Mariota played in three games last season, but he's dealing with an injury, and he's getting old. Even the Philadelphia Eagles had to play multiple QBs last season, and it's just part of the game. The best way to go about a backup QB is to have a younger player you can develop and have learn the system. Sam Hartman was supposed to be that guy, but it just hasn't gone well, and the Commanders need to pivot. Mariota turns 32 this season, he's only on a one-year deal, and he's been dealing with Achilles tendinitis, calling it a rough rehab process. It's time for the Commanders to get a younger QB in to develop behind Jayden Daniels and become a reliable starter in case of emergency, and they're in luck with their options. Kyle McCord The Eagles drafted Kyle McCord in the sixth round this past offseason, but they already have Tanner McKee and traded for Sam Howell, which led to the release of McCord. The team wants to bring him back on the practice squad, but the Commanders can steal him off waivers. McCord set the ACC passing record in his final college season at Syracuse and led the FBS as well with 4,779 passing yards. He was projected as a late third to early fourth round pick, but fell to the sixth by surprise. McCord has a lot of traits to develop, and bringing him in to work with Daniels and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury can set up the future of the backup QB spot for the Commanders. Tyler Huntley Tyler Huntley was a serviceable backup behind Lamar Jackson for years, and he would be an easy fit for the offense behind Daniels. He might not be a fresh prospect like McCord, but he's still only 27 years old and has a lot of traits to feel good about if he ever has to come into a game. The experience of having five years in the league also gives you comfort knowing he's seen a lot of defense in his time in the league. Hendon Hooker The Detroit Lions drafted Hendon Hooker in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft after his prolific college career with the Tennessee Volunteers, but they decided to move on as Kyle Allen emerged as the backup. Lions HC Dan Campbell said that Hooker needs a change of scenery, and maybe Washington can be the spot for him. Hooker clearly needs to sit and develop in a system that works for him, and Kingsbury's offense could work for him. I think it's too early to give up on Hooker, and the Commanders could stash him for the next season as QB3 while he develops. The QB3 position might go unnoticed to a lot of fans, but that player could very well be the backup to Daniels next season, and the Commanders need to get it right. Luckily for them, they have a lot of young options available to them to add to the roster to develop.
