Lee Sharpe: Man Utd will pay anything if Amorim badly wants £70m star

Lee Sharpe believes Manchester United will pay whatever Brentford demands for Bryan Mbeumo if manager Ruben Amorim wants him badly. The Red Devils are negotiating a deal to sign Mbeumo from Brentford and have two bids already rejected by them.

We All Follow United previously reported that the United hierarchy have remained calm, despite facing obstacles in the ongoing negotiations.  What makes the club calm is the attacker’s desire to play for the Red Devils despite interest from other parties.

Tottenham Hotspur used their acquisition of Mbeumo’s former manager, Thomas Frank, and their Champions League qualification as a transfer lure. However, United’s immense stature dwarfed those gratifying ideas for Mbeumo, as he wants to play under Amorim for Man United.

However, the problem of negotiation remains displeasing as it is a recurring theme for the Red Devils in the market. In the past, many clubs have inflated the valuation of their players whenever United got involved as an interested party.

The club’s frivolous past spending has haunted them recently due to the negative impact it has had on their finances. United are rightly fighting for a reasonable price, as The Athletic reported that Brentford have put a hefty £70m valuation.

The Bees have argued that Spurs made an offer of a similar valuation that United needs to match this summer. Sharpe told Express Sport that United will pay whatever Brentford demands if Amorim wants Mbeumo badly at the Manchester club. He said:

“It depends on how bad the manager wants him. His record speaks for itself with plenty of goals, chances created, and he has lots of pace to trouble defences in behind. His work rate is really good, and he is happy to track back and do the ugly stuff. He will be hungry and is young, which is what United need at the moment.”

While Sharpe has made a strong point, giving in to Brentford’s demand after this saga will send the wrong message. Other clubs have bullied United into paying enormous money in the past, which badly backfired for the Red Devils.

United fans have voiced this concern many times, and they have much reasonable evidence to back them up. Rest assured, United need to get the deal done quickly as Amorim intends to oversee a squad overhaul this summer. As the clock keeps ticking, United cannot spend too much time on one player when there are many vulnerable positions to reinforce.
