Fabio Capello heaped praise on Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu after last night’s Champions League victory over Royale Union SG.

Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, the 79-year-old hailed the Romanian’s impressive start to life at San Siro.

Cristian Chivu has weathered the early storm and is now on his way to establishing himself as a formidable tactician.

Indeed, the 44-year-old has revitalized the squad with innovative training methods, helping them bounce back from a heartbreaking season.

Furthermore, on-field success has accompanied Inter’s return to form.

After consecutive Serie A defeats in early September, they have won seven competitive matches in a row.

That superb run includes three successive wins in the Champions League, including a 4-0 rout of Royale Union last night.

Meanwhile, a narrow 1-0 triumph at Roma last weekend catapulted Inter to second in the Serie A table.

Only one point adrift of pacesetters AC Milan, Chivu’s men will take on out-of-form Napoli in a mouth-watering clash this weekend.

Despite the size of the task ahead, Inter will take the field in high spirits.

In stark contrast to Inter’s purple patch, Napoli hit rock bottom last night as PSV Eindhoven thrashed them 6-2.

“When I arrived, they said Milan was cooked,” Fabio Capello stated. “I did nothing but get into the players’ heads, telling them they still had a lot to give.

“And the path you’re taking is like mine.

“You’ve gotten into the players’ heads, given them confidence, made them understand that losing matches is possible, helped them regain self-esteem, and this is something psychologically very important.

“You’ve done an excellent job, not just technically but also psychologically.

“The important thing is that you win if you have good players with whom you can work.

“With duds, you don’t win.”
