A jubilant weekend at the Amex last time out saw the Foxes end their eight-game losing streak against Brighton and Hove Albion. The points were shared with Fabian Hurzeler’s side as Leicester picked up their first points and goals since January. However, the delight on a sunny day on the coast could all be forgotten as Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s side hosts Liverpool. Here is the Leicester Predicted Lineup to take on Arne Slot’s title-chasing squad at the King Power Stadium.
Last time out, the Foxes reverted to the 4-2-3-1 system, which served them well under Enzo Maresca last season. Mads Hermansen started once again as the shot-stopper, managing five saves versus the Seagulls. Conor Coady and Caleb Okoli formed a centre-back partnership for just the third time this season, whilst Luke Thomas was moved to full-back. Meanwhile, James Justin started as an inverted full-back, which was unfamiliar territory for the 27-year-old.
In the pivot, Wilfred Ndidi and Boubakary Soumaré started together once again, with Oliver Skipp replacing the Nigerian after an hour. Bilal El Khannouss started in the attacking midfielder role, which saw him have greater importance throughout. Kasey McAteer and Stephy Mavididi then started off the flanks, as the duo provided much more energy and direct running for the midfielders. Leicester legend Jamie Vardy then led the line for the 30th occasion this season at 38 years old.
After eight losses in a row, something needed to change, and it came in the form of a tactical adjustment to the shape. The Dutchman utilised the 4-2-3-1, which was key to the Foxes’ success last season and was a system he used during his time at PSV. Justin surprisingly starred as the full-back coming into midfield despite Ricardo Pereira making the role his ownlast season. The adjustment saw the visitors have much more of an offensive threat after not scoring for months.
Despite this, the home side took the lead in the 31st minute as João Pedro slotted home his penalty. However, Van Nistelrooy’s side showed some fight this time as they replied with an equaliser seven minutes later, courtesy of Mavididi. The scoreline would then remain all square until yet another penalty was dispatched by the Brazilian. As they did after the opener, the away side kept plugging away and eventually found their reward as Caleb Okoli scored his first goal for the club.
A hard-earned point was taken away from the Amex, but the performance still wasn’t enough to take all three points. Many flaws still loom over the East Midlands side as their relegation to the second tier looks closer and closer. A loss to Liverpool, whilst all results going the Reds’ way could see them clinch a 20th title, whilst Leicester could also be relegated.
As revealed by the Dutchman, there are no new injuries to the squad. Belgian international Wout Faes is said to have returned to the squad, alongside 15-year-old Wonderkid Jeremy Monga.
