Daniel Levy prioritises permanent move for Mathys Tel as Tottenham open negotiations

Tottenham have a golden opportunity to redeem themselves after a disappointing league campaign by winning the Europa League. Amid an injury crisis, the Lilywhites had to lean heavily on their young talents, and they’ve managed a respectable European run. Among those youngsters, Mathys Tel has exceeded expectations since arriving on loan from Bayern Munich in the winter window. With speculation mounting over a potential permanent deal, Daniel Levy has a growing admiration for the French forward and his interest in securing Tel’s services beyond this season.

While there have been a few signs of improvement for the on-loan Bayern Munich forward lately, Mathys Tel’s time at Tottenham has been underwhelming. The forward hasn’t been able to secure a spot in Ange Postecoglou’s starting eleven day today, creating uncertainty on his future at the club moving forward. Recent reports suggest Spurs are not likely to trigger the £45 million option to buy Tel, and would prefer to negotiate a lower fee with Bayern Munich. Other sources state that Chelsea are also monitoring the situation closely and could swoop in if Spurs fail to conclude a deal on Tel, which would leave Daniel Levy with a big decision.

Spurs chief eyes permanent move for Bayern starlet amid transfer uncertainty

The print edition of SportBILD, as relayed by Sport Witness, has confirmed that Tottenham have decided not to trigger their option to buy Mathys Tel this summer.

Instead, the Lilywhites plan to negotiate a reduced fee for the 20-year-old forward, and Bayern Munich appear open to discussing a revised deal. Notably, Daniel Levy is said to be “particularly interested” in securing Tel’s permanent move to Spurs.

The Tottenham chairman maintains a strong relationship with Bayern’s hierarchy, having previously negotiated Tel’s loan deal as well as the transfers of Harry Kane and Eric Dier to the German club.

Even though Mathys Tel hasn’t had the affect many Spurs fans thought he would have, Ange Postecoglou has complimented the young forward on his contributions and he provided big praise for the player’s great attitude and desire in training. This endorsement suggests Tottenham are still considering a permanent transfer for the French Under-21 international. However amid suggestions Postecoglou may leave this summer, the final decision on the future of Tel will likely now be with the club representatives rather than Postecoglou, the current head coach.
