Chelsea star left back Marc Cucurella has missed the last two matches with a hamstring injury, but it sounds like the Spanish international will be returning back to the Blues shortly.
Ahead of Wednesday night’s next big game for Chelsea against top five contenders Aston Villa, Blues manager Liam Rosenior stated that the club aim on having Cucurella back on Saturday in the Fifth Round FA Cup clash against the fabled Wrexham, via Absolute Chelsea:
“Cucu is looking really good, hopefully we can get him involved for Saturday [if he isn’t available for Aston Villa]. Estevao is back on the pitch running, which is great.”
Jorrel Hato was fantastic at left back against Arsenal for Cucurella, recording three tackles and three interceptiosn while playing decent enough on the ball, focusing most of his energy on totally shutting down star man Bukayo Saka.
He has more than earned another start, and Chelsea can relax on Cucurella’s recovery, knowing they do not have to rush him back or risk aggravation on a tricky hamstring issue if they do not need to.
But it is always good to have the No. 1 guy, Cucurella, back. He is having another strong season for Chelsea with three assists and a ratio of 1.8 tackles per game to 0.6 dribbles completed allowed per match.
It will be great to have him back for Wrexham, but it would make more sense to use the FA Cup as a tune up, if anything, to make sure he is 100 percent healthy for the huge Champions League clash against PSG – a rematch of the Blues Club World Cup triumph over the reigning Champions League winners.
