Lionel Messi follows through with threat, misses Barcelona's COVID-19 testing

Lionel Messi followed through with his threat that he wouldn't be attending Barcelona's coronavirus testing on Sunday, meaning that he won't be attending the club's practice on Monday.

According to ESPN's Sam Marsden and Moises Llorens, Messi didn't show up for COVID-19 testing as he continues to push for a move from Barcelona. The 33-year-old had reportedly been advised by his legal team that taking part in preseason activities "would compromise the claim that he was able leave for free at the end of 2019-20," per Marsden and Llorens.

Multiple teams are interested in the talented Argentinian forward, though his €700 million release clause likely will need to be waived or reduced if he wants to join another club.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be interested in Messi. However, many believe that Messi will end up with the Premier League side, though, instead of in France.

The 33-year-old recently spoke with City head coach Pep Guardiola to tell him he wanted to leave Barcelona after nearly 20 years with the club.

There's no agreement between Messi and Manchester City, though the club has been in contact with his father, and agent, Jorge. As reported earlier this week, City are prepared to offer him a long-term deal that would move him to MLS side NYCFC after three years in the Premier League.

As for PSG, Neymar talked to Messi over the phone on Thursday about the possibility of the Barca captain joining the French club, according to ESPN's Julien Laurens.

PSG are closely monitoring Messi's situation, but have not yet made him an offer or contacted his agent.

Neymar joined PSG in 2017 on a €222 million transfer and has remained close with Messi. Last year, Messi even lobbied for Barca to bring back Neymar, which ended up being unsuccessful.

PSG midfielder Angel Di Maria, who is a close friend of Messi's and teammate on the Argentinian national team, also has reached out to him about joining the Ligue 1 side, Laurens adds.

At this point, we'll just have to wait and see where Messi ends up, though it appears he's definitely set his sights on leaving Barca.
