The only other five-goal game of Messi's career came in March 2012 when he led Barcelona to a 7-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen in a Champions League match.
During Messi's time with the Argentina national team, he has played in four World Cups with three trips to the quarterfinals and a loss in the 2014 World Cup Final against Germany. After his upcoming fifth World Cup appearance this November, Messi said he plans to "reassess his career."
Messi spent the first 18 years of his senior club career with Barcelona before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. In 26 appearances with PSG, Messi has scored just six goals.
