Lisandro Martinez offered to Atletico Madrid

The future of Lisandro Martinez at Manchester United has been thrust into the spotlight despite the defender only recently overcoming another injury setback.

The Argentine centre-back has endured a frustrating spell with recurring fitness problems since arriving at Old Trafford.

Martinez even admitted earlier this year that he considered retiring from football during his lengthy injury rehabilitation.

The report claims the proposal has been made while also noting that the 28-year-old’s current Manchester United contract runs until 2027.

No further details have been provided regarding whether Atletico are interesting in pursuing a deal or whether formal discussions have taken place between the clubs.

The latest claim comes at a time when United continue reshaping their squad.

Martinez has remained one of the club’s most important defenders whenever fully fit.

Since joining from Ajax in 2022, the Argentina international has established himself as a fan favourite thanks to his aggressive style of defending, leadership qualities and ability to progress the ball from the back.

However, repeated injury problems have significantly limited his availability over the past three seasons.

He has regularly forced United to alter their defensive partnerships.
