Lisandro Martinez hasn’t featured for Manchester United in quite some time due to injury, but he’s getting closer to making a comeback.
Martinez has had a tough run of injuries that have kept him out of action for extended periods. Despite this, he’s still managed to maintain a strong connection with the fanbase, who appreciate what he brings when fit.

His most recent setback came in February when he suffered an ACL tear. Given the seriousness of the injury, there were concerns about how it might affect his place in the squad moving forward.
Even so, Martinez is nearing another return for United and has travelled with the team this summer. He was included in the 32-man squad that made its way to Chicago.
Martinez was back at Carrington early in pre-season, and fans were quick to say his return felt like a new addition to the squad.
While he’s not expected to feature in matches or full training just yet, reports suggest he could be back as soon as next month, with the Manchester Evening News even hinting at a possible appearance against Arsenal.
As part of his recovery process, Martinez has joined the team in the United States and appeared in a video on the club’s YouTube channel alongside Bruno Fernandes.
During the video, Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee checked in on him, and Martinez gave an encouraging update on his progress. “I’m feeling so good and confident,” Martinez said.
Fernandes then responded by zooming in on him and saying: “Legs look fit, strong.”
Throughout pre-season, Martinez has been seen moving around without any noticeable issues, which is another positive sign that his recovery is heading in the right direction.
Lisandro Martinez’s injury was poorly timed for Manchester United and Ruben Amorim, who had just taken charge when the defender went down.
Before his layoff, Martinez was showing qualities that no other centre-back in the squad could match. His ability to step into midfield and pick out passes is something that stands out, even if Leny Yoro has begun to show similar attributes.
When he does make it back, it’ll be a big boost. Martinez played a key role in United’s win over Manchester City and their draw against Liverpool last season, largely because of what he offers on the ball.
His tendency to move into midfield adds an extra layer of support, which is valuable given United still lack an ideal holding midfielder who can cover ground effectively.
This will help Ruben Amorim start building from a stronger base at Old Trafford as he looks to shape his first full campaign in charge.
