Liverpool consider £62m deal for controversial English star
Icon Sport

Liverpool are firmly on course to win the Premier League title, displaying resilience and character throughout the season. They now have a golden opportunity to strengthen their bid for silverware by adding the Carabao Cup, as they prepare to face Newcastle—a team they have already defeated twice this season. Under their new manager, the club appears destined for glory.

However, while the team continues to secure results, Darwin Núñez remains a player who has yet to fully meet expectations. Reports suggest the Uruguayan striker could be on his way out this summer. In light of this, Fichajes claim that Liverpool are among several clubs willing to spend over £60 million to sign Mason Greenwood, a transfer that would undoubtedly send shockwaves through the Premier League.

With a focus solely on football, Mason Greenwood is one of the most talented prospects to emerge from Manchester United’s academy in recent years.

Greenwood made his debut for United in 2018 and remained with the club until 2024. His last appearance came in 2022, before his career was temporarily halted due to off-field circumstances. He spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Getafe before securing a permanent move to Marseille last summer. Now, with his recent performances turning heads, a return to English football could be on the horizon.

Liverpool monitoring surprise move for Mason Greenwood

A return to English football would come as a major shock to Manchester United, Liverpool’s fierce rivals, who parted ways with Greenwood with no intention of bringing him back. According to Fichajes, Liverpool are among several clubs monitoring the former United forward. Unlike Barcelona—another club showing interest—Liverpool have the financial strength to meet Marseille’s asking price without straining their budget.

Since his £30 million move to France, Greenwood has been a key figure under Roberto De Zerbi, playing a pivotal role in Marseille’s rise to second place in Ligue 1, a remarkable improvement from last season’s eighth-place finish.

Now flourishing at Marseille, Greenwood has registered an impressive 18 goal contributions in just 25 games, cementing himself as one of the league’s standout attacking talents. Securing his signature would not only bolster Liverpool’s frontline but also send a strong statement to Manchester United.

A move to Liverpool for Greenwood appears highly unlikely. The intense rivalry with Manchester United is a major factor, along with the unsavoury aspects of why Greenwood had to leave the Premier League. Liverpool are better off looking elsewhere, irrespective of Greenwood’s ability as a footballer.
