Tottenham-linked Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz is now being eyed by Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur remain in the market for further midfield reinforcements after signing Joao Palhinha last weekend.

Palhinha has joined Spurs on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich with an option to buy, and Thomas Frank will hope he fixes a key problem in his starting XI. The Tottenham boss was already keen on signing a creative midfielder in the form of Morgan Gibbs-White, but a deal to sign him from Nottingham Forest collapsed last month. That combined with James Maddison’s recent serious-looking knee injury has further accentuated the need for a creative midfielder.

Alongside a No.10, it is very much possible that the Hotspur Way chiefs try and sign an upgrade on the erratic Yves Bissouma, who remains on the club’s chopping block this summer. As such, the north Londoners have been linked with a move for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Liverpool latest entrant in the race for Juventus misfit

Juventus only signed Douglas Luiz in a £42.35m deal from Aston Villa last June, but proceeded to hand him just three starts in the Serie A last season. The Turin giants are now open to offloading him, after manager Igor Tudor has deemed the Brazil international as surplus to requirements at the Allianz Stadium.

One tough season at Juventus should not detract from just how impressively the 27-year-old performed for Aston Villa for five years. This is the reason why Luiz has no shortage of suitors in the Premier League, and there is now another entrant in the race to sign him.

According to an exclusive report from Caught Offside, Liverpool are lurking in the background for Luiz, who is valued at around €40m this summer. They have joined the likes of Tottenham, West Ham, Everton and Leeds United in keeping an eye on the midfielder’s situation at Juventus.

The Reds broke the bank this summer for German playmaker Florian Wirtz. In Wirtz, Arne Slot has landed one of the highly-rated creative talents in European football, but Liverpool do require more meat in the middle of the park. And this is because there is a high possibility of Harvey Elliott leaving Anfield this summer, with RB Leipzig showing interest in the England Under-21 international.

Therefore, Luiz is coveted by Liverpool, who have also signed top talents such as Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike in this window as Arne Slot looks to defend the Premier League crown as well as compete for the Champions League trophy.

Tottenham must act quickly to sign Douglas Luiz

Signing Luiz from Juventus has become a tad difficult for Tottenham following the entry of Liverpool in the mix. Capable of playing as a No.6 and 8, the South American would be an instant upgrade on Bissouma. If Spurs are indeed interest in the ex-Villa star, our officials must act quickly.

That being said, however, our club’s current focus appears to be on signing a creative midfielder to replace the injured Maddison. Before splashing the cash on a No.10, there is no point in signing a box-to-box midfielder with so many options already available at Frank’s disposal.
