Liverpool have been looking to bring in defensive reinforcements in the ongoing summer transfer window as Arne Slot looks to add depth and quality at the heart of the defence, and the Reds have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. And the Merseysiders are now said to be in advanced talks to sign the Cobham academy graduate, per Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The Premier League heavyweights have had an exciting start to the transfer window, and the chiefs at Kirkby are looking to build on it as they look to bring a defender through the doors at Anfield Stadium. We saw English defender Jarell Quansah leave the Reds as he heads to the German top tier, with Bayer Leverkusen securing his signature. And this could end up leaving the defending champions out of options at the back.

And Ibrahima Konate will be out of contract next summer, and the Reds have no guarantee over whether the Frenchman will remain at the club for the long term.

The Charlton Athletic academy graduate Joe Gomez has also been struggling for game time in recent years, and it could end up aggregating into a possible exit for Gomez, given he could end up searching for a move away from L4. And this could end up opening up more space in the roster for a new centre-back.

Liverpool advancing for Guehi

The Crystal Palace defender has been linked with a move to Liverpool for a while now, and taking to X, Sky Sports journalist Plettenberg confirmed that the 24-year-old is on top of the transfer list at Anfield Stadium for the summer window, but now the Reds are taking steps to secure his signature as they enter advanced talks to bring the Eagles star to L4.

There have been reports of interest from Arsenal as well as Tottenham for Guehi’s signature, so Liverpool might want to compound their efforts to sign him. And with his contract running down with his current employers, they would be forced to sell the ‘world-class’ England international.
