Things remain unclear as to whether star Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will continue plying his trade in England come next season, with the 32-year-old continuing to impress amid what can be a career-defining campaign.

As the speculation regarding his future grows, so does the list of his potential replacements at Anfield.

Liverpool linked with Brahim Díaz as a possible Mo Salah replacement

As reported by Express, Liverpool are looking at Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Díaz as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.

The veteran Egyptian is nowhere close to extending his stay at Anfield, all the while reports are emerging from Saudi Arabia that Al-Hilal are ready to offer him a bumper contract and replace him for the outgoing Neymar.

Díaz, on the other hand, is in his second season with Real Madrid after returning from his three-year loan spell at AC Milan. The Morocco international remains a squad player in the star-studded Los Blancos lineup and has registered three goals and five assists this season from 23 appearances.

The aforementioned report suggests a fee in the region of £50 million could convince the reigning La Liga and Champions League champions to let Díaz go.

TKT Opinion

When one first thinks of someone like Díaz potentially replacing Salah, one cannot help but feel underwhelmed. After all, in terms of stardom and numbers, the two are stratosphere apart.

But here’s the thing: Salah’s replacement almost certainly will not be a like-to-like replacement in terms of stardom and profile, though some overlap is inevitable. Let’s not forget that neither Salah nor Sadio Mané were out-and-out wide forwards when they arrived at Liverpool, yet that’s how they ended up developing.

Liverpool need a solution for the long term that improves the team. Díaz’s numbers are not mind-boggling, but if the Reds believe he has the potential to go to the next level with them and take them to new heights as well, then given their recent track record they have earned themselves the benefit of the doubt.
