It has not been the season from Liverpool that anyone expected after Arne Slot led them to victory in his first season.
Combined with their Premier League title last season, their expectations were heightened with over £400 million spent on player arrivals in the summer.
However, they currently sit in eighth place and eight points behind league leaders Arsenal.
This is despite beating the Gunners on Matchday Three, part of a five-game winning streak to start the Premier League season.
However, the wheels have fallen off since, with just one league win since mid-September.
A humbling 3-0 defeat to Manchester City last time out followed by this week’s international break, has left a lot for their fans to ponder.
£250 million was spent on Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak and neither have managed to set the world alight, with no goals or assists in the Premier League for Wirtz and just one assist in the league for Isak.
Cody Gakpo has been one of Liverpool’s most productive attacking players this season, however, he may not have to carry the load on his own as a new attacking recruit is on the cards.
DaveOCKOP reported that Liverpool have held positive talks with AFC Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo.
It’s understood that Anfield is said to be Semenyo’s preferred destination should he leave the Cherries in January.
This would be a bitter blow to Manchester United, who had been strongly linked with a move for Semenyo.
With his £65 million release clause reported earlier this week, the likelihood of the South Coast side selling Semenyo appears all the more likely.
The Ghana international has had a tremendous season, with six goals and three assists in 11 Premier League appearances.
As such, Semenyo has drawn a lot of comparisons with former Liverpool winger Sadio Mane based on his style of play.
His two goals at Anfield during the season opener showed the home crowd and perhaps Reds manager Arne Slot just what he can do.
