Tottenham are set to face stiff competition from Liverpool for the signing of Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo

Tottenham Hotspur’s search for attacking reinforcements has taken another twist, with a report from TEAMtalk claiming that Liverpool have now joined the race for Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.

Antoine Semenyo has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most electrifying talents in the last couple of seasons. The 25-year-old bagged 13 goals and seven assists in 42 games last season, playing a key role in Bournemouth enjoying a fantastic campaign. He has taken his game to the next level under Andoni Iraola this term, netting six goals and providing three assists in 11 Premier League appearances already.

The Ghanaian international has tormented both Tottenham and Liverpool’s defences this season. He netted a brace albeit Bournemouth’s 4-2 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on the opening day of the campaign, and helped the Cherries beat Spurs 1-0 in north London in September. So, both the clubs and their sets of fans are aware of Semenyo’s qualities.

Tottenham face competition from Liverpool for Semenyo

It is easy to see why Semenyo is such a hot commodity in the Premier League. Tottenham’s interest in the Bournemouth winger is clear- they require a left-winger who can fill the void left by Son Heung-min in the squad. A skilful, physical and dynamic winger with Premier League experience makes Semenyo a perfect fit in Thomas Frank’s system at White Hart Lane. However, there is a twist.

The aforementioned report adds Semenyo is “very keen” on a switch to Liverpool. The African star’s versatility to operate as a winger or central striker aligns perfectly with Arne Slot’s system at Anfield. As he can also play on the right flank, the Bournemouth man is viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah. Plus, the Reds’ sporting director Richard Hughes, who played a key role in signing him for Bournemouth from Bristol City back in 2023, remains a strong admirer of the 25-year-old.

Bournemouth, under Andoni Iraola, remain firm in retaining their talismanic figure during the January transfer window. The south coast side have started the season well and are pushing for a European spot, and as Semenyo is a key player for Iraola, they do not want to disrupt the team’s momentum mid-season.

Tottenham tried to land the Ghana man’s signature in the past summer window, although a move did not transpire, and now, given how he has exploded this season, the Cherries’ asking fee for him just keeps on rising. They are unlikely to listen to offers for him in the winter window, but a move away from the Vitality Stadium next summer appears realistic.

Still, Spurs are expected to keep a close watch, knowing the club’s long-term project under Frank could make them an attractive destination when the time is right. If the Hotspur Way chiefs are serious about backing Frank’s vision, Semenyo should be acquired in January at any cost.
