Liverpool remain the most successful team in Europe so far, having suffered just three defeats while maintaining their impressive lead at the top of the Premier League. Their hopes of a historic quadruple stay alive after a dominant 4-0 victory over Tottenham, which saw them stage a comeback and win the second leg. Now, with reports emerging, Liverpool have made a few minor adjustments to their Champions League squad for the second half of the season.
Liverpool have included teenage talent Rio Ngumoha in their Champions League squad for the second half of the season. The Reds secured the top spot in the inaugural league format, winning seven of their eight matches to qualify for the round of 16.
Arne Slot’s side will take on either Paris Saint-Germain, Brest, Benfica, or Monaco in the last 16, depending on the outcome of the knockout phase play-offs.
Liverpool initially submitted a 24-man squad for the first half of the season. Although they made no signings in January, they have adjusted their squad with two minor changes. After selling Tom Hill to Harrogate Town, the Reds removed him from the squad and added Rio Ngumoha in his place.
The 16-year-old Chelsea product who came on around last year, made his debut in last month’s FA Cup third-round clash against Accrington Stanley. However, he was ineligible to feature in the Champions League during the first half of the season.
Clubs are required to name eight locally-trained players, of which at least four must be club-trained, if they wish to name a full 25-man squad.
At just 16, Ngumoha continues to impress both critics and fans with his immense potential. While his first-team appearances have yet to stand out, his performances at the U21 level suggest he could be an Anfield legend in the making.
