Transfer activity across the Premier League is accelerating as top clubs look to reinforce key areas ahead of a crucial summer window.

Midfield remains the priority position for several elite sides.

Manchester United are among those actively assessing options, with discussions already underway around strengthening their engine room.

One of the most in-demand names emerging from that situation is Mateus Fernandes.

Mateus Fernandes is now at the centre of a major transfer battle involving Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, Real Madrid, and PSG after a breakout season despite West Ham’s struggles.

The 21-year-old only joined West Ham last August in a £38 million move from Southampton.

Even in a poor campaign for the club, Fernandes stood out as one of the few consistent positives.

Manchester United are understood to be one of the strongest contenders for his signature.

Liverpool enter race for Mateus Fernandes

However, competition has now intensified significantly after Liverpool entered the race.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool have already made contact with West Ham to understand the situation surrounding Fernandes.

Speaking on the Born ‘N Red YouTube channel, Romano said, “I will tell you something that was not public in the recent days and weeks.

“Liverpool made a call two weeks ago to understand the situation of Mateus Fernandes at West Ham, to understand the price and conditions but they didn’t return with any bid or any official conversation.

“But they made a call two weeks ago, I can guarantee that. Tottenham and Manchester United are busy with a deal, so there are so many clubs involved.

“The player is going to be expensive, more than £85 million. It means Liverpool are working on midfielders.”

Tottenham are also preparing to enter the bidding, with reports they could test West Ham’s valuation with an offer around £70 million.

Real Madrid and PSG remain in the conversation, although Madrid’s interest is not currently expected to progress into a formal approach this summer.

With West Ham’s relegation effectively guaranteeing Fernandes’ departure, the only real challenge is which club meets the valuation and structure required to complete the deal.
