Liverpool Predicted Lineup vs Chelsea for October 4

Liverpool’s season has shifted quickly from a perfect start to a period of concern. Defeats to Crystal Palace in the Premier League and Galatasaray in the Champions League have put pressure back on Arne Slot, who now faces another huge test away at Chelsea. The trip to Stamford Bridge is a chance to reset, but it comes with questions over fitness and form.

Liverpool Predicted Lineup vs Chelsea for Premier League Clash

How Liverpool Have Lined Up Recently

Slot has largely stuck to his 4-3-3 setup. Prior to injury, Jeremie Frimpong has been the preferred right-back, offering pace and width, while Dominik Szoboszlai has been asked to fill in deeper when needed. Virgil van Dijk remains the constant at centre back, though his partner has varied, Ibrahima Konate has not looked the rock that fans have grown accustomed to.

On the left side, Milos Kerkez is pushing Andy Robertson hard for minutes. Robertson’s experience still gives him the edge in big games, but Slot has shown a willingness to trust the 20-year-old.

Midfield has rotated often, but Ryan Gravenberch has been trusted as the deepest option. A rotation of Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Florian Wirtz usually operates further ahead, giving creativity and energy.

Up front, Mohamed Salah remains the biggest threat on the right, though his form has dipped compared to his usual standards. Cody Gakpo’s pressing has seen him hold down the left spot, while Alexander Isak was started at number nine in the midweek clash against Galatasaray. Hugo Ekitike started on the left in Istanbul and worked alongside Isak at times, though he went off with what looked like cramp and is being assessed. Federico Chiesa missed the Galatasaray trip with a training niggle, but reports since suggest it was precautionary rather than anything long-term.

Liverpool Recent Form and Tactics

Four wins to start the season painted a picture of a side clicking early, but recent weeks have told a different story. Against Palace and Galatasaray, Liverpool’s defensive issues came to the fore again. Twice this season they’ve let two goal leads slip, and the organisation at the back hasn’t been good enough.

Slot’s attacking principles are clear,  full-backs pushing high, midfielders rotating, but the balance hasn’t been right. Liverpool are dangerous going forward, but they don’t look like a side capable of shutting games down. That has to change quickly if they want to keep pace with the Premier League’s frontrunners.

Chelsea away is no easy place to fix those flaws. Enzo Maresca’s side are inconsistent, but Stamford Bridge remains a difficult ground. Liverpool will need their big players, Salah, Van Dijk and Isak,  to step up, and Slot has to get the balance right between attacking ambition and defensive control.

Liverpool Injuries to Consider

Alisson Becker sustained a hamstring injury against Galatasaray and has been ruled out. Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to start. Llioni is ruled out for the long term following his Carabao Cup injury.

Federico Chiesa missed the midweek Champions League tie with a minor training issue. Slot downplayed concerns and highlighted the final training session as an assessment of his availability. Hugo Ekitike went off in Istanbul and will also be assessed in training.
