Jurgen Klopp, the popular manager of reigning Premier League champions Liverpool, missed his mother's funeral because of travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As noted by Sky Sports and other outlets, Klopp's mother Elisabeth recently died at the age of 81. The funeral was held in Germany on Tuesday, but Klopp remained in England due to his inability to enter Germany for the remembrance.
"She meant everything to me," Klopp told German newspaper Schwarzwaelder Bote via comments translated by Sky Sports. "She was a proper mum, in every sense of the word.
"As a devout Christian, I know she's now in a better place.
"The fact that I can't be there at the funeral is because of these awful times. As soon as circumstances allow, we'll give her a wonderful, fitting commemoration."
Liverpool honored their beloved boss via Twitter:

Last week, the German Ministry of the Interior confirmed that a Feb. 16 UEFA Champions League fixture between Liverpool and RB Leipzig won't take place at Leipzig's stadium because flights from the United Kingdom are currently banned from entering Germany. As Goal.com explained, the first leg of the tie will now occur in Budapest, Hungary.
Liverpool sit fourth in the Premier League table on 40 points, three behind third-place Leicester City and 10 behind leaders Manchester City.
