According to Merseyside Police, a grey Ford Galaxy driven by a 53-year-old man from the West Derby was responsible and four people were trapped under the vehicle, having to be freed by firefighters. In total, 50 individuals were taken to hospital, including four children. Seven remain hospitalized as of Wednesday, with two — including one child — seriously injured.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the incident as “appalling” and praised emergency responders. King Charles III and Queen Camilla said they were “deeply shocked and saddened,” and the Prince and Princess of Wales called the incident a tragedy that marred an otherwise joyous occasion.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper added in, saying the scenes in Liverpool were truly "shocking & horrendous."

Police say the suspect accessed the closed-off street by tailgating an ambulance after a temporary roadblock was lifted to allow emergency services through. He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving, and driving while unfit through drugs.
Authorities have emphasized that this is not being treated as a terrorist incident and have called it an “isolated” event. Investigators are continuing to analyze CCTV footage to understand the vehicle’s movements before the crash.
As tributes continue to be laid along Water Street and community members offer support to the affected, police are continuing their investigation and have urged witnesses or anyone with video footage to come forward.
