Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly keen on securing the services of the Napoli defender Amir Rrahmani during the summer transfer window.
According to a report from CalcioNapoli24, the Premier League made two approaches to sign the 31-year-old central defender in the summer, but Napoli blocked both attempts. They are hoping to agree on a new contract with the Kosovo International.
He will be out of contract in the summer of 2027, and he has been a key player for Napoli. They do not want to lose the player anytime soon. It remains to be seen whether they can convince him to commit his long-term future to the club.
Tottenham are already well-stocked in the defensive unit, and signing another central defender would make very little sense. They should look to invest in the attacking unit instead. They could use more cutting-edge in the final third.
Joining Spurs would not make a lot of sense for the 31-year-old defender either. He would not be a regular starter ahead of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. Sitting on the bench at the North London club will not be an appealing option.
It would be ideal for him to sign a new contract with the Italian champions and continue there. He is highly rated at the club, and he will be an important player for them. Rrahmani helped them win the league title last season. There is no doubt that he has the experience and the quality to play in the Premier League, but the move to Tottenham would not be a good fit for him.
Meanwhile, the North London outfit have started the season well and they will look to sustain their current form. It remains to be seen whether they can improve their squad in January.
